Meet the artist !

Hi! I’m Anya – a 28-year-old Ukrainian artist based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I’ve always been inspired by mystical and otherworldly things; folklore, storytelling as well as the subconscious and how it affects our day to day life.

Growing up I was split between two worlds- Ukraine and the USA. In my work I want to explore my subconscious and the stories it has to tell with the help of primitive folk art and realism. I wish to combine and unify the two worlds that have shaped me as a person by using imagery characteristic to each country.

Currently, I am exploring the themes of transformation and freedom.

Painting is more than a form of self expression for me. Through the process of surrendering myself to my creativity and letting go of the fear of being liked, I get to discover who I am.

Before becoming a full-time artist, I used to be an English teacher. However, with COVID and the war, I realised nothing was certain in this world anymore. This led me to the most terrifying decision in my life – becoming an artist.
